The international community is paying more and more attention to the issue of "environmental protection and sustainability". Environmental protection and energy conservation actions and measures are actively invested and accelerated. The wave of ESG sustainable regulations is sweeping the world, but the machinery industry with high carbon emissions is facing a major challenge to corporate sustainability and international market status under the impact of the ESG torrent. Xiao Wenlong, executive director of the Taiwan Machinery Association and president of Forwell Technology Group, suggested that in order to respond to the ESG environmental protection and sustainability trend, we can start with reducing carbon emissions and introducing ISO 14064 carbon footprint inventory. Only in this way can we effectively improve carbon emissions and achieve the goal of energy saving, carbon reduction and earth-friendly.
Xiao Wenlong said that when the machinery industry implements ESG sustainable measures, it must make efforts and formulate introductions in many aspects. For example, at the management level, enterprises can establish sound ESG policies, including ensuring employee welfare, reducing environmental impact and improving governance standards. In addition, establishing a transparent reporting mechanism and regularly publishing ESG-related information can help enhance the company's social responsibility image; in terms of the environment, the machinery industry can take measures to reduce energy consumption and improve resource efficiency, such as promoting energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, adopting renewable energy, and carrying out ecological protection.
Xiao Wenlong said that when companies invest in promoting ESG, they can first establish a training plan from the perspective of employee training and participation, improve employees' awareness and participation in energy conservation and carbon reduction, and encourage employees to put forward suggestions for improvement, because employee participation is crucial to achieving energy conservation goals. At the same time, a carbon footprint monitoring system should be established to regularly measure and evaluate the company's carbon emissions, and these data should be transparently reported to show stakeholders the company's progress in energy conservation and carbon reduction.
He also pointed out that in order to mitigate the impact of greenhouse gases on the global climate, countries have formulated international conventions with emission reduction targets. Taiwan also promulgated and implemented the "Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act" in July 2015, setting the country's long-term emission reduction target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to less than 50% of 2005 emissions by 2050. In order to achieve this goal as soon as possible, only by accurately grasping the carbon footprint can we take effective measures and promote plans to reduce carbon emissions. Therefore, by introducing ISO 14064 greenhouse gas carbon footprint inventory, it can be said to be a stepping stone and foundation for investing in ESG standards.
Xiao Wenlong also said that greenhouse gas inventory can be conducted through senior management commitment, establishment of inventory organization, identification of boundaries and emission sources, data collection and emission quantification, selection of base year and formulation of reduction plan, establishment of GHG inventory list, establishment of document and record management procedures, preparation of greenhouse gas report, internal verification and correction, management review, third-party verification and other methods.
Xiao Wenlong emphasized that with the rise of environmental awareness in recent years, global warming and environmental protection have become issues of great concern to modern people. ISO 14064 is of great significance to the environment and the survival and development of all mankind. In addition, through the greenhouse gas emissions and emission reduction project reports verified by ISO 14064, enterprises can not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also further explore more green business opportunities and bring more business benefits to enterprises.
